Mosquitoes gets in the way of Kia Fjällmarathon
On the way down to Åre, to participate in the Kia Fjällmarathon we had decided to stop by Thommys place in Arvidsjaur. He had recently bought a fantastic little farm outside of Arvidsjaur and we wanted to relax a couple of days and enjoy the nature. I knew that there are plenty of mosquitoes in north of Sweden, and I came prepared with a mosquito “gun” that release a gas that scares them away. Little did I know that the mosquitoes around Arvidsjaur are trained killers that eats that gas to breakfast…
Having now spent three nights, with close to no sleep and with early mornings just because I can’t stand to lay down and listen to the mosquitoes swarming around my head I am now tired and got both a swollen arm and legs. Its mosquitoes everywhere. It’s mosquitoes outside and inside. I clearly can’t just handle the sound, I’m allergic to the mosquito bites. Allergy tablets makes it slightly better, but I do have a pain in the legs while running. Tomorrow we will leave Arvidsjaur and head down to Åre, and hopefully my legs will have time to recover. I really want a Kia Fjällmarathon without blockers.
Preparing for Kia Fjällmarathon
Kia Fjällmarathon is a trail race outside of Åre, that I have been wanting to run for a few years. Two years ago I was signed up, but had to give the BIB away as I had a broken foot. Last year simply didn’t work. Now I do want to run, and I will run, with or without mosquitoes.
As with most races, I race for the experience and not the medal or the time. Therefore I’m hopeful that I will have a nice experience in Åre this Saturday.
To ensure I’m fully recovered from all hiking last week, I will take it very slow this week, only a few 5K runs to ensure the legs still work. Today I got Leon and Enzo to join me. A positive thing with running, mosquitoes can’t catch you while running.
