The midnight sun during Corona times
Originally we had so much planned. After our great Kebnekaise climbed, we had planned to visit Lofoten in Norway, treriksröset, Finland and also check out the mine in Kiruna. But, Corona changed it all. As the borders to Norway and Finland was closed and LKAB had cancelled their tours we wasn’t really sure what to do next. I really wanted to see Abisko, and with only being a two hour drive from Kebnekaise, we set the coordinates to guide us there.
And wow, what views. Driving into Abisko, felt like coming home.
The stay didn’t turn out as a expected though. We had googled three camping locations to put up our gigantic tent, but after being spoiled with good facilities in Kebnekaise we didn’t feel like choosing any of them this rainy day. Greatful we found that STF Abisko had put out keys for later arrives and instead we opted to stay at the hostel in STF Abisko. That’s where we saw it, one of the most beautiful sunsets over the mountains in Abisko. The above sunset photo was taken just before mid. The STF hostel in Abisko was great. Clean, high standards and great facilities. I’m very proud to be a member of, and to support STF.
As the weather forecast predicted rain, and the kids now had enough of hiking, we decided to make it a short stay. Abisko, I will fore sure be back…
Trail running to Trollsjön, Abisko
Before we all took the mini bus back south again, I decided to go for a run. And what a run. A magical lake surrounded by majestic mountains. The short run up to Trollsjön was despite the windy and rainy weather worth every step. This area I want to see again.
