Åre, a love at first sight
Our road trip continues, and we had now set sail towards Åre. With this much rain in northern Sweden, a sail and a boat might have been preferable. It’s easy to realise how tall Sweden is, when travelling through the country like this. Going 6,5 hours south, just to get to Åre.
The trip went smooth and other than then seeing an elk and more deers it wasn’t very exciting. Of course it was fun to see new small towns and drive through them, like when we had a great Thai lunch in Vilhelmina.
Not to have any more mosquitoes, and get away from the rain we had booked an apartment in Åre. They offered a very good deal now during summer, and it cost less than the popular STF hostels in north of Sweden.
Immediately when driving in to Åre, I got excited. So different to all other ski resorts I’ve been to in Sweden. This more feel like the alps. Of course, the mountains around the valley is much smaller, but the feeling is there.
Having spent most days behind wheels, we took a stroll through Åre. Such a beautiful little village. People cycling their mtbs everywhere, seeing trail runners coming home to the village, people sitting outside on restaurants eating, drinking and smiling. Perhaps my reaction is increased by heaving spent the last couple of days in the middle of nowhere, seeing no one else other than our group and being bitten to madness by mosquitoes, but Åre made me feel I’m coming back to life.
We finished the night with more monopoly and being served great burgers done by Noel, Bella and Estelle. Thank you lovely kids 🥰
Tomorrow the kids will decide the activity, there is plenty to chose from in Åre.
